Solidarity with Wet’suwet’en Rally

Everyday thousands of train cars (bomb trains) carrying crude oil pass through Chicago. Each train is a potential disaster and threatens our people, our land, and our water. A large portion of this crude oil is coming from the oil fields in Alberta Canada and is a major contributor in the hastening effects of climate change.

On the other end of the Alberta Tar Sands Coastal GasLink/TC Energy have pipelines running through Canada. Over the past 10 years they have been pushing through a 670-kilometer fracked gas pipeline that would carry fracked gas from Dawson Creek, B.C. to the coastal town of Kitimat, where LNG Canada’s processing plant would be located. LNG Canada is the single largest private investment in Canadian history.

The Unis’tot’en (C’ihlts’ehkhyu / Big Frog Clan) are the original Wet’suwet’en Yintah Wewat Zenli distinct to the lands of the Wet’suwet’en. The Wet’suwet’en have never ceded their land to Canada are still the rightful legal stewards of the land and uphold natural law.

Chicago stands as witnesses to this historic moment when the federal and provincial governments, RCMP, and Coastal GasLink/TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) are openly violating Wet’suwet’en, Canadian, and international law.

We stand in solidarity with the Unis’tot’en, we will gather outside the Canadian Consulate in Downtown Chicago to bring attention to the shameful acts of the Canadian Government.

Indigenous Soverergnty is the answer to climate change.
