Dakota Access Hearing

Illinois Commerce Commission Hearing on Dakota Access Pipeline - Pumping Stations

. Thursday, March 5th, 7-5pm

IL Commerce Commission: 160 N. LaSalle Street, 8th Floor, Main Hearing Room, Chicago

Illinois Commerce Commission is holding hearings on the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) permit. Join us in demanding a vote against increased volumes (& DAPL in general).

Stop Dakota Access

Dakota Access is requesting permission to build new pumping stations along the route from North Dakota through Illinois, which would nearly double the pipeline’s capacity to 1.1M barrels per day. This request, if granted, would have far-reaching consequences. Greenhouse gas emissions from burning the oil transported by this pipeline would double. This would contribute to greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere across the globe and further exacerbate the global climate emergency. Operation of the pipeline can be expected to go on for many years, locking the planet further into the use of fossil fuels. We must leave fossil fuels in the ground.

In Illinois DAPL and ETCO are seeking permission from the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) to build new pumping stations at three locations. Join XR as we seek to amplify the voices on the front line of this battle, like Save Our Illinois Land.

EVIDENTIARY HEARING IS CONFIRMED FOR THE 5TH.

Thursday, Mar 5th, 7am–9am or later (see details below): Fight the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) Permit at the Illinois Commerce Commission evidentiary hearing. 160 N. LaSalle Street, 8th Floor, Main Hearing Room, Chicago. Risk level: low

While we will not be disrupting the hearing (it’s important that the climate and risk-of-spills evidence be heard), we will have a presence. We need your help in sending a message that all new plans for fossil fuel investments will be challenged. Register for one or both actions:

1.  ‘Funeral for Mother Earth’ outside the IL Commerce Commission. 7am, NE Corner of Randolph and LaSalle. Play a role in this evocative tableau.

2. Attend hearing in silent protest. Meet 7:30am (or after the Funeral for Mother Earth, if you are participating in that) in lobby inside 160 N LaSalle. Doors for meeting open at 8:30am, leave any time during meeting hours, 9am–4pm. You will be provided black veils, small signs, red paint for hands. Silent, meditative protest.
